Today begins with a round trip of Thuringian Forest, including the very first Bratwurst Museum. Afterwards, we continue to Wartburg Castle. Located high above the town of Eisenach, the imposing Wartburg Castle is the former residence of the Thuringian Nobles. It was here that Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German. The castle has held UNESCO World Heritage status from 1999, and you'll find history and culture throughout the grounds. We then return to the hotel for the evening dinner as well as evening entertainment.
We head to Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia. Located at the crossroads of two ancient trading routes, Erfurt expanded during the Middle Ages to become a powerful centre of trade and learning, and it was the location for the studies of Martin Luther. Erfurt today remains the largest city in Thuringia and you learn more on our optional guided tour.
This afternoon, we return to Oberhof and there is an opportunity to visit the famous Oberhof sports facilities on our optional tour. An experienced biathlete will tell you interesting and amusing facts about the winter sports.
