Fans of the acclaimed poet and writer Thomas Hardy will be aware of the town’s connection, with is featuring as ‘Casterbridge’ in many of his works, and with Hardy’s birthplace located on the outskirts of Dorchester in Higher Bockhampton. Shoppers may prefer to browse the central pedestrianised area with its arcades of shops, whilst history-lovers may prefer a visit to the Dorset County Museum or the Keep Military Museum.
Relax in Weymouth, or join our optional excursion to Poole. A resort for all seasons, Poole is a bustling resort and known for being the home of Europe’s largest natural harbour. Stroll along the historic quayside, delve deep into the heart of the old town, or sit back and relax in one of the many cafes and bars and watch the fishing boats and luxury yachts leave the harbour.
