The hotel is 200 years old and situated in the little quiet village of Portinscale near Keswick. The room was spacious being a disabled one. The food was excellent, tasty and was well presented. We had a great rapport with the maitre d' which helped to make the holiday a very relaxing experience. I would highly recommend the Derwentwater Hotel. Thanks to all concerned. John Anderson.

This hotel is all that we would expect from a Shearings hotel. The brand for us is tip-top.

Great Hotel beautifully situated. The rooms were great if a bit dated. Food was excellent service friendly and very helpful. It was most unfortunate that we had to cut our stay short as my wife took ill. I intend to return to this particular hotel in the future as I really enjoyed it.

We were disappointed with the number of dogs and hope the room we had was not previously used to house dogs. The breakfasts were OK, what food was available was good, however, porridge, prunes, fresh fruit, poached eggs and carton yoghurt were unavailable. Most evening meals were OK but limited choice although something suited to us was available each evening. Like the rest of the hotel our room was tired. The bathe was dilapidated, toilet seat loose, all more 1* than 2*. Overall we rate the hotel 1*. On the positive side the bed was clean and comfortable, staff generally helpful and willing. I think it is unlikely we will book further self drive holidays using Shearings owned hotels although we would recommend the hotel for anyone wanting to take multiple dogs on holiday.
