We visit the huge 19th century fantasy - Penrhyn Castle. A neo-Norman castle crammed with fascinating items, such as a one-ton slate bed made for Queen Victoria, elaborate carvings, plasterwork and mock-Norman furniture, an outstanding collection of paintings and a fascinating industrial railway museum.
The 60 acres of grounds includes exotic trees, plants and a Victorian walled garden.
Join the mountain train at Llanberis for the 4.7 mile ride to Snowdon’s summit - the highest peak in Wales.
At 3560ft it dominates the landscape. Marvel at the spectacular views across Wales and towards England.
Before returning, we take the short drive to the National Slate Museum and travel back to Victorian times, see the workshops, split a slate and learn a true insight into the hardships of quarry life.
Our included excursions takes us first to Caernarfon, dominated by one of the most impressive castles in Wales. The huge castle, with its unusual octagon towers, was the largest of many built by Edward I at the end of the 13th century. Edward’s son was born here in 1284 and became the first Prince of Wales followed, nearly seven centuries later, by Prince Charles.
We head over the Menai Straits and on to the Isle of Anglesey with a photo stop at impressive Beaumaris Castle, an unfinished masterpiece, built in 1295.
Board the all-weather cruiser to Puffin Island – home to many species of birds and wildlife. The 1½ hour cruise, with live commentary, takes you right round the island with regular sightings of puffins, grey seals and dolphins.
Join our optional excursion, explore more of the North Wales coast and countryside.
Our first port of call is Llandudno. Two miles of sandy beaches and a fine Victorian promenade, curve between the two headlands, Little Orme and Great Orme.
Spend time here, before we head to Bodnant Gardens, which cover some 80 acres of the beautiful Conwy Valley.
These are amongst the finest gardens in the UK, with colour displays of flowers, plants and shrubs.
Continue south to the picture postcard village of Betws y-Coed, before returning to our hotel.
