Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world; founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, it has since been the home of 39 monarchs. It is said to have been much-loved by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who spent much of her time at the castle. Highlights of our visit included the richly decorated State Apartments and St. George’s Chapel – the setting of many royal weddings and the burial place of many monarchs.
We spend the afternoon in Windsor. Aside from its Royal connections, Windsor is a lively town in a glorious riverside location, with great shopping and restaurants.
Our second Royal visit takes us to Kensington, home to the young royals as the official residence of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children. It was also the birthplace of Queen Victoria.
The palace is divided into two halves – public rooms including the Queen’s and King’s State Apartments, which you can visit and uncover the public and private stories of the young royal families that have lived here, and a separate, private side where members of the Royal Family live today.
Don’t miss the beautiful Sunken Garden, featuring the statue of Diana, Princess of Wales, unveiled in July 2021.
