Local departure by coach or Home Connect service, then to Cologne to join our cruise ship, the MPS Calypso, for a seven-night cruise.
We begin our cruise upstream to the mighty fortress town of Koblenz, situated imperiously at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers.
Enjoy a stroll around the Deutsches Eck. The town has an abundance of cultural monuments, historic buildings and twisting alleyways, which are a delight to explore.
Today we continue our cruise, passing the famous Loreley Rock, where legend says a beautiful siren bewitched passing sailors, making them crash into the rocks.
Enjoy the riverside scenery and hills passing us by until we arrive in Rudesheim. This popular town is famous for its wine production, so why not enjoy a stroll along the vibrant Drosselgasse street to sample the produce at one of the quaint wine taverns?
Or, why not join our optional sightseeing tour by little road train, plus a visit to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Museum?
with an extra experience
We cruise downstream past the pretty riverside town of Bacharach, overlooked by Stahleck Castle.
We continue past Pfalz Castle and St. Goarshausen to reach Boppard, ‘The Pearl of the Rhine’. Boppard was founded by the Romans and has a fascinating history. The town also enjoys an enviable position, as it is located at the top of the largest loop of the Rhine.
Today, we cruise towards Koblenz, where we join the Moselle River – a more tranquil river valley in contrast to the vibrant Rhine.
Later, we arrive in Cochem, the ‘Pearl of the Moselle’, which is a picturesque town with narrow streets, twisting alleys and restored half-timbered houses with slate roofs, overlooked by the magnificent Reichsburg Castle.
We re-join The Rhine and cruise downstream to Andernach.
We continue our cruise past Konigswinter and Bonn.
We reach Cologne around lunchtime, where you will have free time to explore this beautiful city. The stunning Gothic cathedral here is itself a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but there is lots more to discover, including the historic old town and bustling shopping streets.
