Local departure by coach or Home Connect service then on to the landmark Victorian Peebles Hydro Hotel for a four-night stay.
Today’s excursion takes us to Edinburgh, Scotland’s proud capital and, to many, the greatest city on this island. Explore the many attractions of the Royal Mile, leading from Holyrood to the castle, wander down to the charming Grassmarket or browse the stores of bustling Princes Street.
We then embark on an enthralling Three Bridge Cruise with Forth Boat Tours. Relax on board and take in the spectacular views of the Three Bridges, including the UNESCO World Heritage Forth Bridge, with the beautiful Edinburgh skyline to the south, the Kingdom of Fife to the north, and the island of Incholm with its medieval abbey.
With so much to do in and around the hotel, we’d highly recommend a day relaxing in the historic surroundings of the Hydro. Enjoy a swim in the hotel’s sizeable indoor pool, take a wander through the hotel’s extensive grounds, which you will find lots of gentle activities, or you may even stumble upon a micro-brewery.
Alternatively, join our optional excursion to Jedburgh, known for its associations with Mary Queen of Scots, and the Border Town of Kelso, full of architectural and historic interest around the old square at its centre.
with an extra experience
A short drive takes us to Melrose and Abbotsford House. We enjoy a guided tour of the extraordinary home of Sir Walter Scott, the ‘Great Scott’ who popularised tartan, saved the Scottish banknote and rediscovered his country’s crown jewels. Scott’s imagination spread beyond the walls of the house into the stunning gardens. During our stay, we include afternoon tea in Ochiltree’s Café.
Return home.
Overlooking the Tweed Valley and backed by Glentress Forest,
the Peebles Hydro is a landmark Victorian spa hotel, perched proudly atop Venlaw
Hill, just a short walk from charming Peebles itself. Beyond the grand exterior
is a modern and spacious hotel, boasting a large indoor swimming pool and gym,
plus the great outdoors in abundance. A stroll around the Hydro’s extensive
grounds can bring you to putting greens, a giant chess board, even a
microbrewery, whilst you might also stumble upon birds and bees (the hotel
keeps its own chickens, runner ducks and European bees). The Peebles Hydro is a
truly beautiful base in Border Country.
