Local departure or Home Connect service and then journey to the south coast and our hotel on Hayling Island. Relax and enjoy dinner in the evening with views over the Solent.
After breakfast today, we set off to the famous maritime city of Portsmouth. Our first stop is the Spinnaker Tower, an iconic landmark of the waterfront skyline. The viewing decks, with their floor to ceiling glass walls, offer views stretching 23 miles on a clear day. Following a brief introduction to the Sail of The Solent, we head up in the high-speed lift which travels at 4 metres per second. In just 28 seconds, you’re stepping onto the viewing decks where Portsmouth, the Great Waterfront City, is showcased in all its glory. The Historic Dockyard, HMS Victory and Warrior can be seen alongside today’s world-class Naval fleet – all against the stunning backdrop of the Solent, the South Downs and the rolling landscape of the Isle of Wight.
We then board our cruise to view the harbour from the water, journeying around the Naval Base and seeing warships past and present. The tour lasts for approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, leaving from Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. On return to the dock, you will enjoy free time to explore. Why not browse the shops at Gunwharf Quays, explore the attractions in the naval dockyard such as HMS Victory or HMS Alliance, or visit the Mary Rose museum? There is so much to see and do here!
After breakfast today, we enjoy a visit to beautiful Chichester. You will have free time to explore at your own pace. Situated right in the city centre, you can visit Chichester Cathedral and walk through the cloisters which lead to the Bishop’s Palace Gardens from St Richard’s Walk. Entrance to the cathedral is free; however, a donation is much appreciated.
A lovely day lies ahead as we take the hovercraft to the Isle of Wight. Hovertravel is the fastest Isle of Wight ferry route across the Solent and is the world's only year-round passenger hovercraft service. You'll be on the island in just 10 minutes, where you'll have free time to explore Ryde.
Known as the ‘Gateway to the Isle’, Ryde is one of the UK's original seaside resorts and said to be much-loved by Queen Victoria. With miles of glorious sands, an attractive esplanade, beautiful gardens, a thriving shopping scene, and a quirky mix of seaside fun and Victorian architecture, there is plenty to see and do here.
