For local history, discover Paignton’s fascinating harbour and its interesting market. The town's friendly cafés and shops are perfect for enjoying a warm drink and some delicious treats.
Today, we will discover the beauty of the English Riviera on our planned outing. We will board the Dartmouth Steam Railway at Paignton station for our morning journey on the heritage steam railway line. Step back in time as you relax and soak in the stunning scenery. We arrive at Kingswear, where you will take a short ferry across the river to maritime Dartmouth.
You will then board your cruise boat for a circular river cruise of the River Dart. This 60-minute cruise takes you to the mouth of the river, passing castles, Dittisham, the Britannia Royal Naval College and Greenway House – home to late Dame Agatha Christie. Keep your eyes peeled for the varied wildlife that can be seen – dolphins, seals, herons, egrets, buzzards and kingfishers. On your return to Dartmouth, there'll be time to look around, go shopping, and have some lunch before going back to Kingswear for your return steam train ride to Paignton.
After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, we depart and and enjoy our direct journey home.
