The hotel is set in glorious grounds which lead to the end of Derwentwater. The outdoor furniture is very good. All the ingredients of the self-service full-breakfast were kept hot and fresh and there was a wide variety of cereals, fruit, teas and coffee. All 3 courses of the Dinner were beautifully cooked and there was plenty of variety. The staff were friendly and attentive. The holiday was great value for money.

We have done dozens of holidays with Shearings. You always get great value for money. We were devastated when the dreaded Covid caused the company to collapse. The hotel was a little sad, it is waiting for a new owner. When it is sold it will need a huge amount of money spent on it to bring it back to its former glory. The building has loads of character and is set on the most amazing grounds with a lovely walk to the lake at the bottom. The staff were all fabulous and went out of their way to make our holiday one to remember. A special thank you to Howard, what an asset to the team, going far beyond the call of duty to make sure we were happy. The food was lovely too, with the usual 3 courses 3 choices dinner and a buffet breakfast. Overall 10/10 for the team, 7/10 for the hotel, and 10/10 for the location. Thanks Guys, see you again.

Lovely location and food but it was spoilt by an outdated room in much need of repair and refurbishment. Hardly anywhere to hang towels; the extractor fan didn't work; the tap/shower had to be run for 10 mins to get hot water.
