Local departure by coach or Home Connect service, then to the Tinto Hotel in the Scottish Borders for four nights.
Our included excursion takes us to the 15th century Rosslyn Chapel, which survived the turbulent times of the Reformation, and is immortalised in Dan Brown’s film 'The Da Vinci Code' starring Tom Hanks. It lays claim to being one of the most famous chapels in the world surrounded by myths and legends of the 'Holy Grail'.
We continue to Edinburgh for free time. Overlooking the Old Town is the massive castle, with its commanding view of the city and surrounding countryside, including the Firth of Forth. On the highest point of the rock stands St. Margaret’s Chapel, built in the early 12th century by King David I, the youngest son of St. Margaret. The almost chaotic layout of the Old Town is in complete contrast to the northern part of the city built in Georgian times and reflecting the great architectural characteristics of that period. Laid out to a grand design, the New Town has wide streets and elegant squares and is bordered to the south by Princes Street Gardens and to the north by Queen Street Gardens.
Explore Edinburgh’s famous landmarks, including the Royal Mile, the Palace of Holyrood, Calton Hill and the Sir Walter Scott Monument.
Optional excursion to the ‘Highlands in Miniature’ as we enjoy a scenic drive of the Trossachs National Park, recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty.
We enjoy free time in the villages of Callander, Aberfoyle and Drymen before driving to the southern shoreline of Loch Lomond, with a visit to Lomond Shores for retail therapy and to take in the views of the Loch.
We return to our hotel via Glasgow.
The optional excursions will be available to book during your tour.
Prices are per person and are subject to change. Payment will be in Euros (cash payments only).
Our first port of call is the seaside town of Ayr, before travelling to nearby Dumfries House, with entrance to one of Britain’s best kept heritage secrets. See sumptuous interiors and magnificent furnishings, all set in two thousand acres of land. It is regarded as an 18th century time-capsule since the principal rooms and their contents have remained virtually unchanged for 250 years.
We have arranged access to a private room within the house to enjoy tea/coffee and shortbread, followed by a privately guided tour of the House.
Return home.
You will stay for four nights at the 3-star Tinto Hotel in Symington, near Biggar.
