Local departure by coach or Home Connect service, then on to Newquay and our hotel for four nights.
After breakfast, we depart the hotel for a fun day exploring the legends of Cornwall’s pirates, smugglers, and spooky encounters.
Our first stop will be imposing Bodmin Jail, which now showcases the rich, dark and fascinating history of Cornwall – especially the legacy of Georgian and Victorian crime and punishment. Learn about the local legends of smugglers, pirates and the ‘Beast of Bodmin’ at this fantastic attraction with our included guided tour.
Our next stop after a drive over Bodmin Moor will be at the famous ‘Jamaica Inn,’ which has been welcoming visitors since 1750 and is famous for the novel by Daphne du Maurier. A visit to the Smuggling Museum is included, where you can view artefacts of smuggling and ship wrecks. There is also a gift shop and a farm shop with local Cornish produce.
Our final visit of the day is the beautiful Cornish village of Port Isaac, famous for the TV series ‘Doc Martin.’ Wander the pretty streets with its old-world charm and soak up the atmosphere of Cornish life.
After breakfast, we visit the gem of Cornwall, St. Ives, with its famous beaches and pretty cobbled streets that lead to the picture-postcard harbour – it is little wonder why this seaside town is one of the most visited in the region. You will have free time to explore or maybe indulge in a Cornish ice cream.
We also call at the ancient market town of Penzance, famous for its pirates – or at the least the singing variety! Penzance is also known for its historic port and the fantastic Wharfside Shopping Centre, which is home to both well-known brands and local specialists.
After breakfast, we visit pretty Padstow. Home to a working fishing port surrounded by glorious sandy beaches, visitors can enjoy watching the everyday ebb and flow of typical Cornish harbour life. It is also a famous foodie destination, with popular eateries such as Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant. Browse the local shops for holiday souvenirs or local produce.
We return to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure. Take in the sea air with a walk along Fistral Beach, explore central Newquay, or just relax in the hotel – you could enjoy a swim in the indoor pool or soak up the views from the lounge.
After breakfast, we start the journey home.
You will stay for four nights at the 4-star Esplanade Hotel in Newquay.
