Today we enjoy an included excursion to visit the market town of Keswick on the shores of beautiful Derwentwater. On the way, we call at Grasmere, which lies at the very heart of the beautiful Lake District. Here, you'll find the tiny Sarah Nelson Gingerbread Shop, located in the grounds of the pretty parish church. Made with a top-secret recipe, this sweet treat is popular with visitors – don't be put off by the queue, as it's well worth the wait!

Enjoy a day at leisure or join our optional excursion to Penrith, with its cosy pubs and quaint tea rooms. This historic market town is a delight to explore with cobbled lanes and a wealth of independent shops.

In the afternoon, we will stop at Ullswater, which is the second largest lake in the Lake District at 7.5 miles long.

Penrith

Today we enjoy one of the highlights of our tour: a visit to Lake Windermere! First we will stop at Bowness-on-Windermere, one of the most popular spots on the lake. There will be time to explore the lakefront and boutique shops and cafés before it's time to board our cruise.

Watch the stunning scenery go by as you sail on Lake Windermere towards the top of the lake at Ambleside. Once we disembark, you will have some free time to explore the high street in Ambleside before we return to the hotel.

Please note: the day may operate in reverse, with the cruise from Ambleside to Bowness-on-Windermere instead.

You will stay for four nights at the 3-star Windermere Hotel in Bowness-on-Windermere, the 4-star Castle Inn Hotel near Keswick or the County Hotel in Kendal.

County Hotel

Set in a former coaching inn, the County Hotel is located in the centre of Kendal. This hotel had renovation work completed in 2019, giving it a contemporary look and feel whilst retaining the period features of this Grade II-listed building. The facilities include a bar and restaurant that serves traditional meals, and each room features a TV and tea and coffee-making facilities.

The Windermere Hotel

Overlooking the shores of England’s largest lake, the English heritage-listed Windermere Hotel has been welcoming guests since 1847 and is a firm favourite with visitors to the Lake District to this day. It is the perfect place from which to explore the lakes, and many of the region’s most stunning walks can be started nearby.
